Ancient Greek Sports
The Ancient Greeks played some sports that are still played today like Boxing and Wrestling. However, the rules were much more different back then.
Today in Boxing, there are rounds in which the boxers try to knock the other out and you can not hit an opponent when he is on the ground. In Ancient Greece there were no rounds. They fought until one of them was knocked out and you could keep attacking your opponent, even if they were on the ground. There was also no weight classes in the men and boy divisions. Your opponent was picked randomly. Instead of wearing gloves they wrapped leather around their hands and kept their fingers free
Wrestling, since Ancient Greek time, has not changed a lot. Like wrestling today, you had to throw his opponent on the ground landing on his hip, shoulder, or back for a fair fall. They needed to do this three times to win a match. Some rules that are still upheld today were upheld back then. They could not bite their opponents and genital holds were also illegal. However, breaking your opponents fingers was allowed.
Chariot Racing lead the way to modern day racing. There were two different types of races, two horse and four horse. The coarse was twelve laps around the stadium which equaled about nine miles.
